phonogram is a pay phone adventure taking place during the afternoon of friday, august 28, 2009 in and around central winnipeg. we will gather at 1400 (2pm) in the auditorium in the basement of the norquay building (401 york), disperse shortly afterward for a couple of hours of thrills, and reconvene at an exciting location. attendees will receive a list of participating pay phones and instructions on how to use them to get information from the surrounding area. bicycles are recommended for getting to the phones, but pedestrian-friendly trip plans are also possible (register so we know you need one!).

if this all sounds incomprehensible to you, read up about previous events to get a sense of things. inquiries can be directed to the form.

during the day?!

with apologies to 9-to-5ers, this event takes place on a friday afternoon so we can make use of spaces that are only accessible during the traditional work day. other excursions will take place on weekends or evenings in the future, fear not.

what/who to bring

it’s surely more fun as part of a team, so find a couple of people travel about with. you will need a writing utensil and maybe a light if you’re brave.

bravery?!

the registration form asks your level of bravery: how much risk are you willing to take? do you want to stick to places clearly open to the public or are you willing to push the envelope?

registration

you are not required to register to participate, but it helps us know how many to plan for and what sort of challenges people are up to. if you are reluctant to register, come back here thursday evening the final details. otherwise, g’head.

$?

a $2 donation per participant is requested to cover materials, but no one will be turned away. the numbers we will dial on the phones are free, so no need to accommodate mts’s 50¢ gouging.

but…

got a question? fire away. this is not the registration form, that’s here.

colophon

the typeface is frutiger condensed, which you can see if you use firefox 3.5+ or safari 3.1+ through the magic css3. the site is in the deliciously open source rails, running on worker-owned dreamhost.
